Discover the Gastronomy of Amorgos

Local Flavours, Authentic Experiences, Unforgettable Memories

In cafés and tavernas, at village feasts filled with music and dance, and in home kitchens, the heart of the island beats through its flavours. Patatato, the island’s signature dish, is goat meat slow-cooked with potatoes and local wine, traditionally served at celebrations but enjoyed year-round. Xidato soup, kofto—a dish combining wheat with onion and olive oil—herb pies with fennel and chard, cinnamon-spiced kavourmas, and the island’s distinctive kakavia fish soup attest to Amorgos’ culinary wisdom and rich heritage.

Amorgos is also renowned for its local products, available throughout the island: fava, cheeses such as xinomyzithra, kopanisti, melipasto and hard cheeses, honey, herbs, wine, and fish, including the famous sun-dried menoules. Together they form a rich gastronomic canvas. As you stroll along the stone-paved alleys, the aroma of distilled raki mingles with freshly fried xerotigana, while local women prepare spoon sweets and sesame brittle with honey and cumin.
