The "Local Tour" project involves cross-border cooperation between Greece and Cyprus, coordinated by the Development Agency of Heraklion.
In the cross-border cooperation during the previous programming period, the collaborating Local Action Groups (LAGs) from Greece participated: Development Agency of Heraklion (LAG of Heraklion Prefecture), Crete Development Organization, Development Agency of Lasithi, Development Agency of Ionian Islands, Cooperative Self-Government of Zakynthos - SAZ, Development Agency of Imathia, Development Agency of Kilkis, Development Agency of Florina and Development Agency of Western Macedonia. Of these, the following participate in the new scheme: Development Agency of Heraklion (LAG of Heraklion Prefecture), Crete Development Organization, Development Agency of Lasithi, Development Agency of Ionian Islands, Development Agency of Imathia, Development Agency of Florina and Development Agency of Western Macedonia, which had included the project in their local program proposal.
Additionally, the following LAGs have joined the partnership: Development Agency of Thessaloniki (LAG of Municipalities of Lagadas, Volvi and parts of the Municipalities of Oraiokastro, Thermi, Thermaikos, Pylaia- Chortiatis and Delta), Development Agency of Thessaloniki (LAG of Municipality of Chalkidona and part of Municipality of Delta), Public Cooperative "EVROS", Development Agency of Chalkidiki, Development Agency of Cyclades, Development Agency of Limnos, Local Development Company of Chios, Center for Development, Employment and Vocational Training and Technology of Samos, Development Agency of Rodopi, Development Agency of Kavala, Development Agency of Serres and Development Agency of Kilkis. The cross-border partner is the Development Agency of Larnaca-Famagusta from Cyprus.
The project is ongoing for the old partners and constitutes a modification of "MEDEAT", which will be implemented with a different partnership, title and coordinator (Development Agency of Heraklion). The new project re-examines the priorities and objectives of the partners. At the local level, common characteristics of local development plans were explored and new actions and interventions are proposed that are based on a common object of cooperation, that of linking the agri-food sector with tourism and culture.
The objective of the cooperation is to link the agri-food sector of the intervention areas with tourism and culture, while promoting actions for the protection and enhancement of the environment and social cohesion in the involved areas. The basic goal is to promote "honest" and quality products, with which each area will be associated, as a tourist and gastronomic destination.
